Farmer’s Market Internship Program

Position:
Summer College Intern – June and July

Reports To:  
Logansport Farmers Market Manager

General Description:  
Students who work under an internship arrangement will enhance their education, their professional experience, and their interest in local industries. This job is offered in order to provide real life experience in academic disciplines applicable to the student’s major.

Responsibilities:
Work in conjunction with, and perform duties as determined by, the Farmers Market Manager. This may include:
-Fill August and September nonprofit booth slot- possibly SOIL, Cass County Soil and Water
-Work with the Parks Department and Farmers Market Yoga to make this program more visible in the community.
-Follow up and Support the POPS program
-Work toward providing garbage and recycling bins for the farmers market
-Consider providing a water station in the heat of summer
-Perform other duties as assigned
-Research and report regarding benefits of local food production and the environmental and nutritional impact
-Assist with preparation and presentation for Wellness Summit

Requirements:
-A genuine love for farmers markets and the products and community atmosphere.
-Excellent people skills
-Reliable and punctual
-Ability to work independently and collectively as a team player
-Someone who wants to see the market thrive by trying new initiatives to promote excitement, environmental responsibility, as well as vendor and shopper experience
-Physical ability to lift 50 pounds

Hourly Wage:
$16.50 per hour up to 156 hours

Big News for the Logansport Farmers Market!

Logansport is excited and thankful to be one of the Lilly Endowment Grant Phase VIII recipients! Because of this grant, the Cass County Community Foundation will be putting a covered pavilion over the Farmers Market Lot at 4th and Market this year. You won’t have to look far to find our vendors, however, because we are simply moving catty corner across 4th and Market streets. Same corner, same market, just a little bit different!

It’s Time for our Spring Informational Vendor Meeting

Thinking about Becoming a Vendor at the 2024 Logansport Farmers’ Market? Vendors must be from Cass, Howard, Miami, Fulton, White, Carroll or Pulaski counties.

INFORMATIONAL MEETING Tuesday, April 9 – 6 p.m. at the Cass Co. 4-H Community Building.

All current and prospective vendors are asked to attend. Come find out what it takes to become a vendor.

Farmers’ Market Opens Soon!

The Logansport Farmers’ Market will be opening for the season on Saturday, June 3, in downtown Logansport. The market will be located at 4th and Market streets.

The Farmers Market will be open for business every Saturday from June through October. Saturday hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the months of July, August, and September, the market will also be open on Wednesdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

In recent years the range of products from the Farmers Market has included fresh vegetables and fruits of all kinds, plants, herbs, meats, eggs, honey, maple syrup, jams and jellies, honey mead, specialized coffee/beverages, baked goods of all kinds, popcorn, custom wood signs, jewelry, fresh flower bouquets, greeting cards, homemade soaps and candles, knitted or crocheted projects, hand-woven rag rugs, baby quilts, and much more. Sweet corn is also expected to be back this year.

Local not-for-profit organizations may apply to set up a one-time, complimentary booth by contacting a board member. Once a month, the Farmers’ Market allows a local organization to share their mission with the community. Guidelines are as follows:

  • One non-profit organization may be allowed to set up a booth at no cost per month. These organizations will be chosen by market board vote. If selected, the organization may participate only once a year.
  • Organization may not promote politics or religion.
  • Not-for-profit organization setting up at no cost is not permitted to sell a product or to profit monetarily. The purpose of this promotion is simply awareness of information.
  • Not-for-profit organization may not in any way compete with an existing vendor.
  • Organizations must be located in the same counties that vendors are restricted to.
  • Not-for-profit organizations must provide a not-for-profit business ID number.

Local musicians are also featured at the Farmers’ Market on a regular basis. Guidelines are as follows:

  • Musicians may play for tips at Farmers Market on a first come basis, one music group at a time.
  • Music groups will be allowed or disallowed at the discretion of the market board, and all music should be family friendly.
  • The board may allow a group to reserve a slot of time on a particular date.
  • Musicians will not be charged to play at Farmers Market.
  • Musicians are permitted to accept tips.

All products offered are fresh and truly local – produced in Cass, Howard, Miami, Fulton, White, Pulaski or Carroll counties.
